What exactly is the Washington County Arts Council?
If you don t know you re not alone.
Very few people actually recognize who we are and what we do, said Kim Konikow, Chairman of the Board. It’s been very slow process.
The Council was formed in 2007 as an arts Advisory Committee for Washington County Commission. The Council tasked with Konikow said continuing development of art throughout the area and provides information about art inhabitants of the district.
This includes raising awareness of art and encourage participation in the arts. The Council also works with individual artists, arts and community-based organizations, school art programs. Support all artistic disciplines, including visual, literary and performing arts.
We strive to work within each community (in Washington County) and all forms of art, Konikow says, realized, though, that resources are limited. Our Board is small, and everybody has something else that they are working on. We Re really forced to prioritize projects what we can take on.
Among the council’s contribution to the more prominent local art scene is January’s Art Studio Tour for Zion.
The Council does not create a tour, but did not give background to the Organization to support the Bobbi Wan-kier, project coordinator. Because the Wan-kier had the idea for the tour but there is no organization came back, he asked the Board to be a fiscal sponsor.
With our help, he was able to take off the studio tour, County Konikow said. She is using us as a conduit to the operational and financial aid, but he is responsible for conducting the project and fundraising on its own. … That’s probably the largest project we’ve been involved in.
As the fiscal sponsor for the tour, the Board provides Wan-kier direction necessary to make new art show for the county. Council s support enabled Wan-kier works directly with the artists while the Council helped secure grants and manage finances.
Involve the Council also added credibility and it is possible for the event to have non-profit status, Wan-kier said.
My project is just one of the kier, Wan said. Other projects can have the same type of relationship.
